Esbit Solid Fuel Tablets are the original German-made solid fuel tablets. The imitations will not perform the same. Available in 14-gram and 4-gram sizes, Esbit fuel tablets are virtually smokeless and odorless. The 14-gram tablets are ideal for backpacking, camping, as well as home and auto emergency kits. Use 14-gram Esbit tablets with Esbit stoves, makeshift camp stoves or as a substitute for alcohol in alcohol burning stoves. Esbit 14 g solid fuel tablets burn about 12 minutes each and up to 1300°F (760°C) with each tablet able to boil 500 ml of water in about 8 minutes. Esbit 14-gram solid fuel tablets are individually packed in waterproof packaging, and their 10+ year shelf-life makes them an excellent survival or emergency essential. Extra fuel tablets can also be stored inside a stove to conserve space. Esbit 4-gram solid fuel tablets burn approximately 5 minutes and are ideal for hobby applications such as Wilesco engines, steam-launch boats, and hobby trains. All Esbit Solid Fuel Tablets work at high altitudes and sub-zero temperatures, are smokeless and have almost no combustion residue. Esbit solid fuel tablets light easily with a sustained flame, can be snuffed out, and if kept dry, will relight when needed again. They work equally well for the solo hiker, camper or hobbyist. Made in Germany; 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Reliable Fire, Anywhere This review is for the Esbit fuel tablets in the 14 gram size. Developed in 1936 in Germany, these fuel tabs are made of hexamine and are in solid form. They have been used in purpose-specific pocket stoves for decades, in WWII, as part of humanitarian packets worldwide, and for years as part of NATO troops’ standard kit. I use these primarily for the Esbit pocket stove but they also make for excellent fire starters, especially in adverse conditions. Amazon has proven a reliable source for these as well as a decent price, though I’ve found they can be had for comparable prices at local outdoor/adventure stores. I have been using these for years and have found them so reliable that they live in my home and auto-based emergency kits, my dayhike pack, and my backpacking gear. The following is a breakdown of my experience with the Esbit fuel tabs:

Best solid fuel tablet We tested these tablets in the eastern Sierras at an altitude of 9800 feet. They were at least a year old and boiled 16 ounces of water in a Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set. It worked well with little residue. I would recommend these to be used with the Wetfire stove. The only downside is they are a bit large.

Oops I didn’t notice the tablet size when I ordered (20 Pieces Each 4g ) My fault. Just be aware that some packages offered have tabs that are 4 gr each, not the more common 1/2 oz size. I suppose there will be a convenience factor in using these tiny tabs if there is only a small amount of heating to be done. I really like the product, but the cost/gr is a lot higher with this packaging. Off to my favorite outdoor store to get some grown-up sized Esbit (about the same price, but you get 6oz worth).
