More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. Can’t wait to use this again! I really like the way the manufacturer and shipper packed the box. The canopy case has a good set of wheels on it and despite how heavy it is, it was very easy to pull 3 city blocks to the beach where we had my picnic birthday party. It was incredibly easy for me and my cousin to put up in less than a minute. We had a really strong wind on the lake and the canopy didn’t budge. Easy to set up but ripped after only 2 uses This tent is easy to set up….my husband and I can put it up very easily and quickly together but I can put it up by myself, if putting it up in the yard. We used it on the beach. It does takes two people only because of the wind, putting the canopy on in the wind takes two people for sure! It was easy to set up and take down. It is VERY heavy to carry. Our only big complaint is we already have rips in the fabric which is very disappointing for the price of this product. Who knows if it…
Great for softball I picked this canopy to take to the softball field with my daughter’s travel softball team. I chose it for the Coleman name, the great reviews, and the wider base. We purchased in the off season and are in our second season of using this. (a year and a half of ownership so far)
