About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.

In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won’t deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

This Classic lives up to its name This is the real deal if you are looking for a stove as good as Coleman used to make – because they still make it. The reviews here that say otherwise are malarkey. I bought a Coleman 425E stove in 1971. I’ve used it a lot and it still works fine. I recently bought the Coleman 425 listed here for my son. I did a detailed examination of both stoves side by side. Here is what I found comparing the new to the old.* The metal box of the new stove is exactly the same size,…

Legendary Quality OK, I’ve not yet fired this stove up, but I would like to comment that this stove arrived in perfect condition. When ordering, my biggest concern was that I wondered if this would compare to the bygone days of legendary Coleman quality. I am not disappointed, the fit and finish is fine and the metal seems heavy and durable. This 425 Classic seems every bit as good as the stoves of days past, great paint and just that “Classic” look and feel. If I have any problems when lighting, (highly…

Great coleman stove…probably. My dad has had this same stove for 30 years. I remember making breakfast on it on those chilly mountain mornings when we went camping. I wanted to continue the tradition of the Coleman liquid fuel stove with the red tank so I picked this one up. The build quality seems to have gone downhill since the 70s and 80s. The hinges on the lid don’t seem very sturdy and I had to bend one of them so the lid would open all the way. I remember my dad’s stove being made out of better material (but that…
