Very bright I haven’t been camping since I was a little boy but this lantern is far more useful in the event of a nighttime power outage or if you are going into a dark basement or other room where you want as much area illuminated at once instead of a narrow beam which is the best that even a large flashlight can provide.This lantern is bright enough to easily illuminate a pitch black room. Throws A LOT of Light – Carabiner Handle is Brilliant I got this because I plan to use it while camping and for power outages. This is great for both cases, although note that the lantern is fairly heavy (almost 5 pounds with batteries in it) so it’s best for car camping rather than hiking. For camping, this lights up a good area so we can cook food, set up tents, and build a campfire even in the dark. Big and bright but I’d like other battery options I normally don’t like to complain about batteries and it does clearly say in the description that it uses 8 D batteries but in 2019 it just seems odd to still be using these throwaway cells in a light. That and I had a reading comprehension fail and missed that detail. Just be aware that it really does use 8 of those big honkin’ batteries. My failings aside this isn’t a bad camping lamp.
